Brock House Revisited

 Happy Monday!

Alice made a Brock House quilt block!

She said she was intrigued by the block and inspired to make one!  She said it is was fun to make even "if it didn't turn out perfect."  Well Alice, it looks pretty darn amazing to me!  Thank you so much for sharing this with us!

Sue has been researching all the arts that made "Over the Hill to the Poorhouse" popular.  Check out this silent film from 1908 that depicted the story of the poem here.  There were plays inspired by the poem done in the 19th century and films in the 20th century.  Look at this poster from the 1920 film that Sue found:

The film was remade in 1931 and there was even an adaptation done in South Korea in 1968.

It's as good a time as any to celebrate Social Security which began in 1935 and saved many from poorhouses.  A good article on the history of the poorhouses (sometimes called workhouses) is here.

As for the Brock House, well I still love this pattern and wonder if any of you have thought of making one?

Have a wonderful and safe day!
