Tuesday's This and That: March 1, 2022

Happy Tuesday!

Well it's March 1 and the month is coming in like a lamb today.  One of the older women in the neighborhood cautioned that March could go out like a lion but for now, we'll see.

💗💗💗

How are you holding up?  I'm not sleeping much.  I'm waking up in the middle of the night and unable to go back to sleep.  These are very tough times and I would love to know how you are coping.

Sue said the recent posts were timely.  A friend sent her this photo that was taken at the Met:

Sue's comment was that it must have weighed a ton and then she added:

Q: Does this dress make my butt look big?
A:Yes.

😂😂😂

Today is also "Fat Tuesday" and the day before Lent.  Here in Pennsylvania Dutch Country everyone is eating "fastnachts"--pronounced fahs-nahkt.  Here's what they look like:

You can get them plain, powdered or with sugar.  Yes they look like donuts but I swear the really good local bake shops still use the old fashioned ingredients including lard.  We only have one bake shop near us that sells the original kind.

The word fastnacht comes from the German 'to fast' and 'night'.  They are so popular that the shop opens at 5 a.m.  It's not unusual to see a line of customers around the block.

Are there traditions for Fat Tuesday where you live?

💗💗💗

Have a safe and happy day!

  1. My husband ordered 2 dozen from Mary Ann's Donuts. Some were given to neighbors who helped us with the snow this winter. They are one of a kind!
