This and That Tuesday

Last week I posted about The Calico Jungle book and received such a lovely email from Wendy!  She has a great blog called The Constant Quilter and had actually made a Calico Jungle inspired quilt!  She graciously allowed me to share her photograph!

Isn't this lovely?  You can see close-ups at her blog (and visit her blog for inspiration) here.  Wendy actually knew Dahlov Ipcar--they were neighbors!  This is what Wendy shared in her email:

I love this book of Dahlov's too. My favorite of hers is "Bug City". She was a dear friend and neighbor of mine for over 30 years. We miss her greatly here in Georgetown. She made fabulous soft sculptures for decades but only made one quilt in her lifetime for her son Bob. My greatest compliment was when after seeing my quilts, she called me an "artist". I made a Dahlov inspired quilt last September for my niece which is pictured on my blog (The Constant Quilter) if you would like to see it. Her son Charlie Ipcar keeps a wonderful Facebook page of her work. It is worth a visit. I am really looking forward to your children's book posts. Thanks for sharing.

Many of you enjoyed the story about Joseph Deibert and Emma Reichard.  I found another article on Emma when I was packing away the research.  Here is Emma at age 72 in 1953 with another one of her wonderful quilts!

Emma was also the mother of 8 children and learned to sew from her grandmother.  "I really love to sew," she commented in the article.  "Mrs. Reichard's 400 quilts have brought warmth and cheer to many persons, but to the one they ahve brought the greatest happiness is Mrs. Reichard herself."  We can all understand that as we all love to share giving our gifts to others!

Sue sent this hilarious meme from Australia!!  I just love this!!!

Have a safe and happy day!

  1. Thanks for the shout out! I was so happy to find that fabric with the little girls climbing trees. I think my little grand niece will be climbing trees like I did! What an amazing person Emma must have been. Quilts do bring joy to so many people.

  2. Wendy does great things. Her color combinations are always bright and cheerful. She really interpreted "Tthe Calico Jungle" well. I had a favorite book as a child and since I began quilting I've wanted to make a quilt from my favorite illustration in that book. I wonder if I'll ever get around to it. I enjoy your blog.
