Tuesday's This and That: May 2, 2023

The Vermont Quilt Festival has been cancelled.  I have to admit I was surprised by this development.  You can read the announcement here.  The world has changed so much since 2020 and of course, that spills into our quilting world.

When I did my last lecture in April, the women of that guild told me they were getting rid of the guild's library collection.  "Everything has changed since the pandemic," one woman said.  "No one is checking out books anymore."  We are facing the same challenge at my guild's library.   Many quilters have learned to use technology to order fabric, download patterns, or follow free tutorials.

While the only constant in life may be change, happily some things don't.  American Quilter's Society had a big show this year and you can peruse the winners of the event here.

  1. It was a hard pill to swallow. The world is indeed changing, but for some reason I felt the quilt world would be last on the list. I have such fond memories of the VT show over the years. I first attended in 1983. My daughter was 14 months old and it was the first time I had left her overnight. I'd like to assure everyone that this will not happen to the Maine show, but...

  2. So sad, but true. It was an early goal of mine to attend, and one I accomplished in a New England tour one summer.

  3. Quilt publishing is changing--Martingale/That Patchwork Place shut down after 35+ years. And American Patchwork & Quilting has apparently, discontinued Quilt Sample and Quilts & More.
