One of my friends said the other day that she just wants the holiday to be over. I know she is super stressed right now. It's different now that the kids and even grandkids are grown. We'll spend most of the holiday with mom and my brother.
I'm looking forward to the hibernation season (January to March). It might as well be called the sewing season because we seem to get so much done during those months.
I'm not really sewing right now but putting together kits of projects for the new year. First up is two sets of orphan blocks. I'm just cutting fabric and putting everything in baskets until after the holidays.
I've decided against doing a temperature embroidery piece. I decided I didn't want to do that because there are so many other hand pieced items I want to make even more. My husband said, "just put the data in you calendar." It's a good idea so I will.
One of the things that really amuses me these days is the upset over the Pantone Color of the Year. I've been seeing a lot of rants about this because the color they chose was "Cloud Dancer" aka "White".
"Bits and Pieces" is a youtube channel I enjoy. Michelle has a lot of free patterns that she demonstrates. She also offers free patterns on her website. One that I would really like to make in the new year is called "We Will Remember". You can see here patterns here and her channel here.
What kind of projects are you looking forward to in 2026?
I'm looking forward to making quilts that are not my 'normal' type of quilts. I have several 3 yard quilts prepped to sew at a retreat and I've have a cutsie pattern I've wanted to make for years with a layer cake I bought on sale years ago! I have several projects to finish and I'm going to try to keep from starting too many quilts that will guilt me for not finishing them. You are fortunate to be able to spend time with your mother and brother, have a blessed Christmas!
ReplyDeletegot a list made already....so once christmas is done will be sewing up a storm...merry christmas to you michele...
ReplyDeleteChristmas is pretty quiet around here - especially since we don't have any grand kids to visit! I keep flirting with the idea of a temperature quilt, but then end up not wanting to commit to a project like that. An embroidery or cross-stitch one would be more manageable, but would still have to keep track of daily highs and lows. Still thinking! 😜
ReplyDeleteHello Michele, I love ❤️ the Winter photo and message. Your friend who told you that she just wants the holidays to be over is not alone. This time of year can be difficult for many people.
ReplyDeleteMany experience loneliness, stress or depression, which is why I am not stopping my blog posts over the holidays.
You are very talented in sewing.
Merry Christmas 🎄 to you and I wish you good health, happiness and peace now and always.
Thank you so much for visiting me and for your kind comment on my blog. I post on Mondays and Thursdays.
Officially summer this side of the globe; 3 hot, rainy and humid months. That's the reason for me to hibernate! I didn't know there are rants about the Pantome color 2026. Etsy has just announced Patina Blue as the 2026 color. I just did my UFO list (yikes!). I have way too many projects to finish and that is my goal for the new year. I'm drowning in RSC blocks, I have to do something about that!
